Boat Show Basics: Preparation and Attending Your First Show

Boat Show Basics: Preparation and Attending Your First Show

The boat show season is upon us. But before you step out to grab those tickets, you need to get a few things sorted out.

First thing's first:

What is a boat show?

A boat show, it's pretty obvious, is a show that showcases various boats. Boats are a crowd-pleaser, and attending a boat show allows you to get the opportunity to see every type of boat out there, all under one roof.

All the boat dealers and brands come together at a local or regional level to show off their collection. It's relatively easier for those interested in owning one to check out and compare various brands, specs, and prices rather than hopping from one shop to another.

The show is a mixture of exchanging conversations, a friend or family reunion, and a treasure hunt (where boats being the treasure, of course) all in one event.

The shows usually take place in a shopping mall, a parking lot, or probably an arena. If you are lucky enough, you could probably catch a show in the sea.

What to do at a boat show?

We have listed down a few basic things that you need to know and expect in a good boat show. If this is your first time attending a boat show, this guide will surely come in handy.

Which of the boat shows should you attend?

Take your time and do your research carefully. Which ones intrigue you the most? Are you interested in attending a show offshore or onshore? Is there a show happening somewhere on the outskirts of town or state that you wish to attend? Are the dates not colliding with your busy schedule?

A point to keep in mind here that boat shows are always in attractive places so that you can experience both pleasure and business together.

Our personal preference is to opt for the show that is helpful onshore. This way, you will not only be able to enjoy a good sunny day with your family but will also be able to watch the boats in action live.

Make your choice and mark your calendar.

Are you booking your tickets?

It is always smart to book your tickets in advance; you can easily purchase them on the boat show websites or even on-site.

You should know that the ticket bookings begin four months before the show, so you have an ample amount of time to grab yours beforehand.

The main advantage of this is that you will save yourself from the trouble of standing in a long queue under the scorching sun. Plus, you could also purchase them at a good price.

The price ranges somewhere from $30-$50. If you have kids under 12 years of age, check if they could get in for free or for half the price.

Organize your schedule

Having your entire trip planned and organized would save you time and a whole lot of trouble on the event day.

Once you have researched the show you wish to attend, you know all the activities they have and the boats being displayed.

Time everything you wish to do there and how many boats do you wish to see in how many days. That will guide you on how many days you should plan your visit. Do not forget to add in the night openings to your visit as well; it's much less hectic than the day trip.

If you recently moved to an area where boat shows are common, you don't have anything to worry about at all. You can just jump into your car and head back home whenever you feel like it.

When should you plan the trip?

You'll want to save yourself from the stress of reaching on time. Hence, it is advisable to plan your trip three days before the event; a week before would be even better. This way, an unforeseen event would not prevent you from attending the show.

Your trip also depends on your choice of transport, are you willing to travel by car, train, bus or plane? Booking accommodation nearby can save you the hassle of reaching the event late.

However, due to your busy schedule, you can only reach on the very day the event takes place, do not forget to book a shuttle or taxi from the train station or the airport to drop you off at your destination in time. The least you could do is arrive at least 3 hours before the event starts.

To know more about how you should organize your trip, take a look at the boat show's website. They share all the information regarding the city it takes place in, dates, timings, and the nearby localities.

Also, memorize the timings of the opening and closing of the show. In events like these, time flies by in a blink of an eye.

Checking out the boat or taking it for a spin

Contact the boat dealer in the boating zone for this one. Some dealers book an appointment for you to take the boat out on the waters for a trial.

To book an appointment, you can either do it before or at the show.

Keep yourself packed for this side of the trip. Remember to wear flat shoes, a windcheater, and warm clothes that can come in handy too since it gets pretty chilly during the ride.

Finally, the BIG day!

The day is finally here, and you are all excited about your very first show. Attending a boat show can be both fun and a great learning experience for all ages. You also interact with the people who have the same interests as you, which is boats.

A few final pointers to consider, it is best if you keep some warm clothes with you like a sweater or a shawl since you may require to change halls at the venue. If the event you choose takes place outside, do carry a sunblock to avoid the sunburn, a cap, and also water bottles to stay hydrated, you will find snacks, however, at the venue.

Finally, if you have kids along with you, make sure you keep an eye on them to avoid any inconvenience.

All aboard!
