Upgrading a 1978 Skipjack 24' Flybridge

Upgrading your boat's hardware is a great investment. You'll also save money on repair costs, because better equipment means less damage will occur. Upgrading your hardware is truly one of the easiest ways to improve its performance.

As a boat owner, proper maintenance is a must. The best way to increase the value of your boat is by updating its parts and components. Hardware is one area where many people neglect. But upgrading these parts can make a big difference in how smoothly everything runs and how well it holds up over time.

This customer was looking to upgrade the hardware on his 1978 Skipjack 24' Flybridge. The goal was to improve the look, durability and functionality of the hardware.

5 Upgrades from Marine Depot Direct

First, the owner replaced the boat steering wheel with our high quality Stainless Steel Sport Steering Wheel. These are investment cast 316 stainless steel steering wheel with molded in finger grip for better control and comfort. The hub is designed to fit a 3/4" tapered shaft. Includes a cast stainless steel 316 control knob that is spoke-mounted for easier maneuverability. Available in 13-1/2" Diameter and 15-1/2" Diameter at 10 degrees.

Next, the owner installed a Stainless Steel Angled Grab Rail to the transom. These are constructed from 7/8" 304 stainless steel tubing with a 45 degree terminal angle. They have two 1-3/8" mounting studs for easy and convenient installation. As long as you have access to the other side of the hull, installation is a breeze.

A new Heavy Duty Deluxe Articulated Bow Anchor Roller was then installed to the bow of the boat. These are made of 304 marine-grade stainless steel and can handle plow anchors that are 25lbs or less. The fixture is stamped and meets the highest industry standards. This high quality 304 stainless steel 24-1/4'' anchor roller has a natural look and is designed to be very durable.

One of the more complicated installations was the Stainless Steel Low Profile Deck Hatch. With their low profile, elegant appearance, these Man Ship deck hatches can be customized in many different ways. They are made with 316 stainless steel frames, hatch, hatch arms and hinges, and hand polished and electro-polished to protect against corrosion. Frames and hatches are made from machine rolled stock to ensure strength and low weight. Great for allowing airflow and sunlight into the lower deck, these low profile deck hatches are equipped with tough, glare resistant acrylic tops.

Lastly, the boat owner installed two Stainless 4-Way Ratchet Antenna Mounts on both port and starboard sides of his craft, located just behind where passengers would sit when underway. These are 316 stainless steel cast and outperform any other antenna mount on the market.
